Howard University Department of Architecture as part of the College of Engineering and Architecture is entering an exciting new phase of transformation and invites applications for a new tenure-track faculty position, at the rank of Assistant Professor  beginning January 2023. The Department of Architecture is seeking new faculty for the core teaching and research area of Digital Technology, Fabrication, Media and Design.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Applicants must possess a NAAB accredited degree in architecture and an advanced post-professional degree in architecture or an allied field, with preference for a doctoral degree and/or an architect’s license.  Additionally, candidates must show demonstrated expertise in the area of Digital Design instruction and scholarship.  Applicant must also demonstrate evidence of the ability to pursue an independent program of research or creative activities as well as an ability to initiate and conduct interdisciplinary research and/or creative activities. A demonstrated record of grantsmanship is desired.

 

TEACHING/RESEARCH RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching architectural design studio and lecture/seminar courses across the architecture curriculum. Candidates are expected to pursue an agenda of scholarship including grantsmanship and embrace new opportunities for interdisciplinary teaching, research and creative activities in the priority area of Digital Design and other topical areas.  Candidate would also address a pedagogical direction to prepare leaders who are environmentally literate, culturally competent, and socially engaged and arm them with the requisite skills to understand the threats of extreme climate events and work in and with underserved and marginalized communities in accordance with the university mission.

 

Additional duties will include service to the university, local, national and international communities in advancing the mission of the university. The ideal candidate is expected to be an active participant in the advancement of the Department, College, and University.
