Learn Our Mission

our mission

The Washington, D.C. Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects (DCNOMA) seeks to champion equity, diversity, and inclusion in the profession of architecture and related design fields.

DCNOMA provides a voice for those historically underrepresented in the profession while taking a stand against apathy, bigotry, intolerance, ignorance, and the abuse of the natural environment. We celebrate the design excellence of minority professionals, foster fellowship among our members, and support professional licensure through community engagement, service, and professional development.

our goals (2026-2027)

Guided by NOMA National’s framework, DCNOMA’s work is centered on four pillars that guide our programming, advocacy, and community impact.

educate

DCNOMA is committed to nurturing cultural talent from early education through professional practice, emphasizing social justice and equitable design education. Our initiatives support students, educators, and scholars in building a more inclusive architecture profession.

elevate

DCNOMA amplifies the voices and achievements of minority architects, with a focus on emerging professionals. Through storytelling, professional development, and leadership opportunities, we foster a visible, supported, and thriving community.

empower

DCNOMA provides architects, firms, and industry partners with the tools and resources necessary to implement principles of justice and equity in practice. Our work translates social justice from theory into action—raising the standard of practice across the field.

Putting Our Values into Action

DCNOMA’s mission and goals guide the programs, partnerships, and advocacy efforts that advance equity, professional growth, and community impact across the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia region.
We invite architects, designers, students, educators, and allies to engage with our work and help shape a more just and inclusive built environment.
