Adero Z. Brooks

Adero Z. Brooks is an emerging architectural designer whose work is driven by the belief that architecture is about more than buildings—it is about creating spaces that are beautiful, functional, and capable of nurturing the people and communities they serve. Her approach centers on design as a tool for connection, with a focus on community well-being, environmental responsibility, and culturally responsive practice.

Based in the Washington, DC area, Adero currently works as an Architectural Designer at EYA in Bethesda, where she contributes to shaping sustainable, walkable communities through thoughtful residential design. In her role, she supports the development of drawings, models, renderings, and presentations that balance creative vision with technical precision while aligning with both client goals and regulatory requirements. She brings a strong foundation in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Lumion, and Adobe Creative Suite, paired with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics. She is especially drawn to projects that foster connection—particularly residential, educational, and community-focused environments.

Adero holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture from the Savannah College of Art and Design and dual master’s degrees in Architecture and Net Zero Design from The Catholic University of America. Her graduate thesis, HIVE: Home Is Village in Evolution, proposed a transitional housing “village” for young adults on a reclaimed brownfield site in Baton Rouge. The project explored how ecological sensitivity, cultural materiality, and intentional design can foster belonging, stability, and community.

In addition to her professional work, Adero has engaged in research and collaborative design initiatives, including contributing to the reconstruction of a historic geodesic dome in partnership with the Smithsonian. She is also an active member of DCNOMA, where she supports efforts focused on mentorship, professional development, and advancing diversity within the field of architecture.

Outside of architecture, Adero is a creative entrepreneur, designing and handcrafting pieces through her crochet practice. This work informs her architectural perspective, deepening her appreciation for materiality, pattern, and craft, and reinforcing her commitment to thoughtful, human-centered design.
