rafael sanabia
Rafael Sanabia is a Maryland native and driven architectural designer whose work is rooted in equity, service, and the transformative power of the built environment. Currently serving as an Architectural Designer at Wilmot Sanz in Rockville, Maryland, Rafael contributes to healthcare projects across the Mid-Atlantic and beyond. Through his work, he brings together architecture, project management, and collaborative leadership to help deliver spaces that support communities and improve access to care.
Rafael is an alumnus of University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned both his Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, along with a minor in Construction Project Management. His academic foundation reflects a strong technical skill set paired with a deep understanding of how thoughtful design intersects with construction, operations, and real-world impact.
A committed member of National Organization of Minority Architects since his early undergraduate years, Rafael has been actively engaged with NOMA and NOMAS throughout his academic and professional journey. During his time with his alma mater’s NOMAS chapter, he served as a general body member, Financial Chair, and notably as President for four years—demonstrating sustained leadership, mentorship, and advocacy for students navigating the profession.
In addition to his professional practice, Rafael remains deeply invested in supporting the next generation of designers, fostering connections between students and practitioners, and advancing equity within architecture. His work and service reflect a belief that design excellence and social responsibility are inseparable—and that architects have a critical role to play in shaping healthier, more inclusive communities.
