Co-Regional Managing Principal, Southeast Region | Co-Managing Director, Washington, D.C. | Gensler
DCNOMA proudly spotlights Francisco Gonzalez, LEED AP ID+C, NCIDQ, a nationally recognized leader whose work demonstrates the power of architecture and design to transform organizations, communities, and the human experience. As Co-Regional Managing Principal for Gensler’s Southeast region and Co-Managing Director of the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, Francisco is redefining the connection between human experience, real estate performance, and the business of design.
A Career of Purpose and Impact
With more than 25 years of professional experience, Francisco is an award-winning architect who thrives at the intersection of business and creativity. His leadership style is rooted in authenticity, mentorship, and an unwavering commitment to inclusive, people-centered design.
In his role at Gensler, Francisco helps clients navigate a rapidly evolving real estate landscape, advocating for experimentation with new space types and positioning organizations at the forefront of change. His influence extends beyond project outcomes — he fosters cultures of innovation, elevates talent, and advances strategies that drive long-term success for clients and communities alike.
Iconic Projects and Visionary Leadership
Francisco’s project portfolio reflects both scale and vision. His leadership has guided transformative, high-profile workplace projects such as:
Marriott International Global Headquarters
Amazon HQ2
Signal House
Multiple AM Law 100 Firm Offices
By combining his experience designing some of the most high-profile workplaces in the DMV and his relationships with key local business, government, and real estate leaders, Francisco and his Gensler colleagues are redefining what it means to work in and experience downtown. Through these and many other projects, Francisco demonstrates how thoughtful design can elevate not only the physical space but also the people and organizations that inhabit them.
Advocacy, Inclusion, and Community
As a proud member of DCNOMA, Francisco — alongside Gensler D.C. co-leader Kimberly Sullivan — has been a tremendous supporter of our chapter’s biggest events over the past two years. Together, they championed our Hispanic Heritage Month celebration with LA.IDEA and AIA|DC and, more recently, Gensler served as the only firm partner for our inaugural Blueprints & Brushstrokes event.
Blueprints & Brushstrokes brought together over 250 attendees, including clients like Rahama Wright of the recently-opened Yeleen Beauty Makerspace and Ron Moten, owner of the Go-Go Museum . The event became a powerful gathering of architects, artists, and community leaders, showcasing how design and culture intersect to inspire lasting change. Gensler’s partnership and submission of two projects reinforced the firm’s commitment to equity and community-centered design.
Francisco’s leadership and advocacy also extend to his broader civic work. He is a trustee and leadership committee member of the Federal City Council, an active member of the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District, and a member of Gensler’s Global Inclusion Committee. His influence extends far beyond projects — he is a positive force for representation, inclusion, and cultural pride in design and beyond.
Hispanic Heritage and Inspiration
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico to a Cuban family, Francisco proudly identifies with his Hispanic heritage. He credits his mother, Myriam Rodriguez, as the catalyst for his career — her love of drawing and time spent sketching buildings together inspired him to pursue architecture.
On the importance of diverse perspectives in design, Francisco shares:
“When we say that we design for the human experience, we should ask ourselves — which human? Having diverse backgrounds and experiences sparks innovation and helps us design spaces that are inclusive of everyone.”
Education & Recognition
Master of Architecture, The Catholic University of America
Bachelor of Architecture, University of Maryland
Francisco is widely respected for his contributions to the profession, client service, and mentorship. His career reflects the values of authenticity, grit, and hard work — qualities he continues to model for both his peers and the next generation of architects.

Spotlighting Francisco during Hispanic Heritage Month is especially meaningful for DCNOMA: he exemplifies the importance of representation and advocacy, pushing for equality within the Hispanic community and beyond while uplifting the next generation of leaders in design.
