PROJECT OVERVIEW
A Living Archive of Sound and Culture
The Go-Go Museum & Cultural Center is a celebration of Washington, DC’s native sound—honoring the legacy, rhythm, and cultural impact of go-go music as a living, evolving form of expression. Designed as both an educational and experiential space, the project preserves history while amplifying the voices and stories that continue to shape the genre.
Through immersive environments, layered storytelling, and interactive design elements, the museum invites visitors to engage with go-go not just as music, but as a cultural movement rooted in community, resilience, and identity. The space bridges past and present, ensuring that future generations can connect to and carry forward this uniquely DC tradition.
Where rhythm becomes memory. Where culture becomes space.
THE ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT
Designing for Rhythm and Experience
The architectural design of the Go-Go Museum translates sound into space—creating an environment that reflects the energy, movement, and improvisation of go-go music. The layout encourages exploration, guiding visitors through a sequence of immersive moments that mirror the layered structure of rhythm and performance.
Materiality, lighting, and spatial transitions work together to create a dynamic experience, balancing archival storytelling with interactive engagement. The design serves not only as a container for history, but as an active participant in preserving and celebrating a cultural legacy deeply rooted in community.
Architecture as a stage for culture, memory, and movement.

ARTIST INTERPRETATION
Beats of the City
“Beats of the City” transforms the energy of go-go music into a vibrant visual language—capturing rhythm, movement, and cultural expression through bold color, graphic storytelling, and layered composition.
Drawing inspiration from the pulse of live performance, the installation reflects the improvisational nature of go-go—where sound, crowd, and culture come together in real time. Through dynamic imagery and rhythmic forms, the artists celebrate the legacy of DC’s music scene and the communities that sustain it.
Through rhythm, we remember.
Through culture, we connect.
Through sound, we live.

THE COLLABORATION
Where Architecture and Art Intersect
The collaboration between Define Design / To Be Done Studio and artists Nabeeh and Ashanni brings the spirit of go-go music into a fully immersive spatial experience. By translating rhythm into both built form and visual expression, the project creates a dialogue between architecture and art that reflects the vibrancy of DC’s cultural landscape.
Together, the design and artistic interventions amplify the museum’s mission—transforming it from a place of observation into a space of participation, memory, and celebration.
A shared rhythm—expressed through space, sound, and story.
