DCNOMA proudly spotlights Reuben J. Hameed, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, an accomplished architect whose career centers sustainability, preservation, and deep community engagement. With more than two decades of experience shaping educational, commercial, and government environments, Reuben exemplifies how thoughtful design can honor the past while advancing a more resilient future. As DCNOMA’s current Secretary, he supports the chapter with grounded leadership and a strong commitment to organizational excellence.
A Career Rooted in Purpose and Preservation
Originally from Boston, Reuben found his passion for architecture at Hampton University’s School of Architecture, where he built a strong foundation in design, history, and environmental stewardship. His early work in Richmond, Virginia deepened his interest in preservation and adaptive reuse—transforming historic buildings and supporting educational institutions in long-term campus planning. These formative experiences affirmed his belief that sustainable architecture is inseparable from cultural heritage and community identity.
Leading with Impact at HGA
Reuben now serves as an Associate Vice President at HGA, an interdisciplinary architecture and engineering firm with offices across the country, including Alexandria and Washington, D.C. His portfolio includes:

Historic renovations and adaptive reuse
LEED and Green Globes–certified buildings

With extensive experience as a Project Architect, Project Manager, and Construction Administrator, Reuben’s expertise includes existing conditions analysis, building envelope systems, new construction, renovations, space planning, and sustainable design strategies. He is widely respected for his ability to guide complex, multidisciplinary projects from concept to completion with clarity and purpose.
