MEMBER SPOTLIGHT | Adero Brooks

Adero Brooks, NOMA, LEED GA

DESIGNING WITH PURPOSE AND SUSTAINABILITY

Adero Brooks is an emerging architectural designer whose work is grounded in thoughtful design, sustainability, and creative problem-solving. As an Architectural Designer at EYA Townhomes in Bethesda, Maryland, she contributes to the design and visualization of residential communities, developing architectural solutions that balance functionality, aesthetics, and environmental responsibility. From concept studies and technical documentation to photorealistic renderings and custom Revit families, Adero approaches every project with precision, curiosity, and a commitment to creating places where people can thrive.

Her academic journey reflects the same dedication to innovation and design excellence. Adero earned both her Master of Architecture and Master of Science in Net Zero Design from The Catholic University of America after completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture at the Savannah College of Art and Design through its Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL) program, with a minor in Design for Sustainability. Together, these experiences have shaped her holistic approach to architecture, one that considers both the human experience and the long-term environmental impact of the built environment.

Throughout her education, Adero consistently demonstrated a passion for design exploration and sustainable thinking. Her achievements include receiving both Gold and Bronze recognition in the 2022 International Design Awards (IDA) Student Design Awards, honoring her creativity, technical ability, and innovative design approach.

COMMUNICATING, CONNECTING, AND LEADING

For Adero, leadership extends beyond design. She believes that meaningful communication and strong professional relationships are essential to building an inclusive and connected design community.

As the current Director of Communications for DC NOMA, she helps elevate the organization's voice by highlighting the accomplishments of members, promoting events and initiatives, and fostering engagement throughout the chapter. Through storytelling and strategic communication, she works to celebrate the diverse experiences and achievements of architects and designers while strengthening connections across the profession.

Her commitment to leadership began long before joining DC NOMA. While at The Catholic University of America, Adero served as Co-President of the university's NOMAS chapter, helping organize programming, strengthen professional development opportunities, and build community among students. Previously, she also served as Secretary of the Savannah College of Art and Design NOMAS Chapter, developing organizational and leadership skills while encouraging student involvement and collaboration.

These experiences reflect her belief that leadership is rooted in service, collaboration, and creating opportunities that empower others to grow.

BUILDING EXPERIENCE THROUGH DESIGN

Adero's professional experiences have provided her with a strong foundation in residential architecture, design visualization, and technical documentation. At EYA Townhomes, she collaborates on a variety of residential projects, producing renderings, site studies, floor plans, permit documents, and design solutions that support projects from concept through construction.

Prior to joining EYA, she worked as an Architectural Designer at Maurice Walters Architect, where she contributed to residential projects through architectural drawings, client presentations, code research, and material selection. Earlier internship experiences introduced her to construction administration, model building, and job site coordination, further strengthening her understanding of how thoughtful design is translated into the built environment.

Whether developing detailed construction documents or communicating design ideas through visualization, Adero combines creativity with technical precision to deliver work that is both innovative and practical.

Adero believes architecture has the power to improve everyday life by creating spaces that are both beautiful and environmentally responsible. Her background in Net Zero Design reflects a commitment to designing buildings and communities that contribute to a more sustainable future while enhancing the lives of those who experience them.

As an emerging professional, Rafael represents a new generation of architectural leaders, designers who recognize that leadership extends beyond the studio and into the communities they serve. Through his continued commitment to mentorship, service, and thoughtful design, he is helping create a stronger, more connected profession for those who will follow.

As she continues to grow professionally, Adero remains focused on expanding her technical expertise, advancing sustainable design practices, and using architecture as a tool for positive change. Through her dedication to leadership, communication, and thoughtful design, she represents a new generation of professionals committed to building stronger communities and a more resilient future.
