Designing Across Cultures

  • US Capitol Visitor Center 1st Street Southeast Washington, District of Columbia United States (map)

On Wednesday, September 30, DCNOMA is bringing architecture, policy, culture, media, and leadership together on Capitol Hill for:

DESIGNING ACROSS CULTURES: Latino/x Leadership, Policy, Culture & the Built Environment

This isn’t just a conversation about representation. It’s a conversation about influence, access, leadership, and the systems that shape our communities.

🎤 Moderated by Kristin Diaz, journalist, news anchor, speaker, and media professional, the conversation brings together three incredible perspectives:

🏛️ Yiselle Santos Rivera, AIA, ACSA, NOMA, SHRM-SCP — 2026 AIA President-Elect and incoming 2027 AIA President, bringing a perspective on architecture + national leadership

🌱 Oswaldo Ortega, AIA, LEED AP, NOMA , NOMA — NOMA Northeast Region Vice President, bringing a perspective on professional access + mentorship

🏠 Alía Fierro, MRP — Senior Policy Advisor, U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, bringing a perspective on policy + housing

Together, we’ll explore how culture, identity, policy, access, mentorship, and leadership influence the built environment — and what it takes to move from representation to meaningful influence.

And this is more than a panel. Come for the conversation and stay for Q&A, networking, community, and a cultural celebration featuring food and beverages celebrating Hispanic and Latino cultures.
